MALACCA: A mother and son were killed after the car they were in hit a cow on the North-South Expressway.
Ngatinah Kemin, 47, and her 10-year-old son Habib Firdaus Mokhtar died on the spot while her husband, L/Kpl Mokhtar Abu Bakar, 50, and daughter Nur Sahuna, 21, were injured in the 1.20am crash at Km213 of the expressway yesterday.
The family was travelling home to Simpang Renggam from the KL International Airport after picking up student Nur Sahuna, who was back from Japan for the Hari Raya holidays.
The Perodua Kancil driven by Mokhtar, a general operations force officer, hit the cow that was crossing the highway.
The car skidded, overturned and landed on the guardrail.
It is learnt that passengers of three other cars, which were also involved in the crash, were not hurt.
The cow also died.
Mokhtar, who suffered broken ribs, has been warded at the Malacca Hospital intensive care unit.
Nur Sahuna, who suffered external injuries to her face and body, has also been warded.According to Mokhtar's younger sister, Fazilah, 47, the family of 11 siblings was planning to meet up for a reunion during their niece's wedding in Alor Setar on Aug 25.
“All of us were looking forward to the reunion, which would also give us the opportunity to celebrate Hari Raya together.
“But we never expected to lose them in a crash during Ramadan,” she said yesterday.
“Ngatinah was a dedicated and loving teacher at SK Sungai Linau in Kluang,” she added.
The mother and son would be buried at the Kampung Ibrahim Majid Muslim cemetery in Pontian, Johor.
A police spokesman said the accident was still being investigated
